Pia Myrvold
THE CREATIVE CODE
16th of October – 2nd of November
WELCOME TO THE OPENING RECEPTION THURSDAY October 16th at 6 PM
Pia Myrvold (b. 1960) is one of Norway’s most internationally recognized contemporary artists, with significant influence on the global art scene. Her work at the intersection of art, fashion, and technology has brought Norwegian creativity to prestigious venues such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Venice Biennale. Through projects such as Clothes as Publishing and Female Interfaces, she has established herself as a pioneer in digital art and interactive installations.
The exhibition The Creative Code explores the meeting point between traditional painting techniques and digital innovation. Myrvold investigates how coding, algorithms, and virtual systems can mirror the artist’s creative process — and how technology can serve as both tool and language. Here, physical craftsmanship merges with digital processes in a reflection on the artistic language of the future.
Throughout her career, Myrvold has represented Norway on numerous international platforms — including The New York Times’ Art for Tomorrow conference in Doha — and has collaborated with architects and composers around the world. Among her most notable projects are the interactive series Art Avatar (Centre Pompidou, 2014–2015; Vitenfabrikken, 2017), the installation FLOW (Venice, 2011), and Female Interfaces (Pompidou, 2004). These works explore the relationship between body, technology, and language, and how coding can be understood as an artistic method.
Following the Venice Biennale in 2019, where she presented the pavilion Time Machine, Myrvold founded the Pia MYrvoLD Art Foundation (PMAF) to preserve and promote innovative art. In 2022, she opened MYworLD Studio Norway and The FOGN Experience in Stavanger — a new cultural hub for experimental contemporary art.
Pia Myrvold continues to expand the boundaries of art, design, and technology. Through her interdisciplinary and visionary practice, she has helped shape Norway’s position as a leading force in digital and conceptual contemporary art.
