BALLROOM BLITZ

27th of November – 14th of December

OPENING RÉCEPTION THURSDAY THE 27TH OF NOVEMBER. WELCOME!

In BALLROOM BLITZ, Espen Eiborg explores the formal and often staged framework surrounding the classic dinner party. The motifs draw us into rooms with long tables, crystal, silver, and guests dressed for a grand occasion, a social ritual that both unites and distances.

Eiborg depicts the anticipation that fills the air before a meal: the sound of cutlery, muted conversations, a chandelier setting the tone, and the subtle tension that arises when everyone becomes part of the same choreography. In this shift between togetherness and role-play, a visual space emerges where the atmosphere hangs thick over the scene, solemn, focused, and at times uneasy.

The paintings are executed in oil on large canvases, with Eiborg’s characteristic broad and energetic brushstrokes. The contrast between rough strokes and elegant details reinforces the duality inherent in society’s formal rituals; here, the grand and the vulnerable exist side by side. Figures move in and out of the group, and the boundaries between individual and collective are fluid.

As the evening draws to a close, it is not only the table that remains – but the moods, glances, and moments that slipped away. BALLROOM BLITZ thus becomes a reflection on what happens in the space between anticipation and resonance, between façade and intimacy.
